Welcome to Safer Southwark Partnership

This site tells you about community safety in Southwark, action we're taking and what you can do to make the borough a safer place

enforcement

In Southwark we have created one team combining all of our enforcement services to deliver our enforcement policy.

The Southwark community safety enforcement team will be structured on three tiers, similar to other enforcement services such as the police or fire service, to provide:

  • Visible reassurance presence across the borough
  • Public realm enforcement and tenancy enforcement to deal with nuisance behaviour effectively
  • Highly professional investigative services that achieve cost effective prosecutions making maximum use of the legislative framework that is available

We have developed a whole team culture based on making enforcement matter, where services work together using their skills and knowledge to address a range of nuisance or illegal behaviour rather that just one issue.

Our successes

100 days of change

We carried out a number of enviro-blitzes as part of our 100 days of change housing improvement programme. Our community wardens worked with the police safer neighbourhood teams to identify a number of properties for help and attention such as repairs and lock fitting by Victim support.

On day 13 of the campaign we launched Enough is Enough, our anti-social behaviour enforcement campaign and on day 29 confirmed that we are getting tough on anti-social behaviour by gaining full anti-social behaviour orders (ASBO's) against four individuals in the Camberwell area.

Over the past months the enforcement team has also:

  • Contributed to the introduction of a new dispersal zone on the 4 squares estate
  • Issued eight ASBO's on our streets and estates
  • Put in place 39 acceptable behaviour contracts
  • Closed 10 crack houses
  • Deployed CCTV cameras to gather intelligence and evidence to assist with taking of successful legal action
