Community wardens
What is our role?
To reduce crime and anti-social behaviour
Community warden schemes provide a highly visible, reassuring presence and can deter crime and anti-social behaviour. We also work closely with the police, reporting crime and suspicious behaviour as it happens. Our partnership with the police is crucial to the success of our schemes.
To reduce environmental crime
A big part of the community wardens' role is to help address environmental concerns by identifying and reporting litter, graffiti, fly-tipping and abandoned vehicles to the council's environmental services team.
The monitoring of street and estate cleaning helps improve the appearance of the area and helps to discourage further crime and anti-social behaviour.
To build links with the community
The community wardens are an important source of information for businesses, shoppers and residents. By helping local people feel more at ease in the area in which they live, community wardens often help residents to become more involved in the local community.
